Cake Cutting Guide

Serving a tiered cake for the first time? Follow these three simple steps to get neat, even slices from every tier. Each tier is cut on its own, so you can serve the bottom tier first and keep the top tier for later.

1Prep the cake

Remove all non-edible items from the cake. Slide the flat side of a knife underneath the top tier to lift and remove it from the bottom tier (the top tier comes on its own separate cake plate). Remove the dowels from the bottom tier by slowly twisting and pulling upwards.

2Cut a slab

Place a cutting board against the side of the cake and cut a 1 inch slab all the way through the cake.

3Slice & serve

With the cake slab laid flat on the cutting board, cut into individual slices: approx. 2 inches wide for party slices and 1 inch wide for finger portions. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the entire cake.

Optional for tall cakes

Cut each slice in half widthwise for extra portions.
